Bloomberg

Nov. 3 (Bloomberg) -- The Federal Reserve will buy an additional $600 billion of Treasuries through June, expanding record stimulus and risking its credibility in a bid to reduce unemployment and avert deflation.
Policy makers, setting a pace of about $75 billion of purchases a month, “will adjust the program as needed,” the Fed’s Open Market Committee said today in a statement in Washington. The central bank left unchanged its pledge to keep interest rates low for an “extended period” after Chairman Ben S. Bernankesaid it could be modified in some way.
While Bernanke’s near-zero rates and $1.7 trillion in asset purchases helped end the recession, the Fed said progress has been “disappointingly slow” in bringing down joblessness close to a 26-year high. The risk is that the move doesn’t work or fuels inflation and asset bubbles, said Paul Ballew, a former Fed economist and a senior vice president at Nationwide Mutual Insurance Co. in Columbus, Ohio.

Bloomberg

Nov. 3 (Bloomberg) -- U.S. stocks fell, with benchmark indexes retreating from six-month highs, and oil pared its gain while Treasuries extended their advance as investors awaited the Federal Reserve’s plans to stimulate the American economy.
The Standard & Poor’s 500 Index, which closed at the highest level since May 3 yesterday, slipped 0.3 percent to 1,189.49 at 12:20 p.m. in New York after fluctuating earlier. Oil was little changed after rallying above $85 a barrel earlier. Silver, coffee and copper led losses in commodities. The 30-year Treasury yield climbed five basis points to 3.88 percent. The Dollar Index increased 0.2 percent.

FED Meeting today

Stock futures pointed toward a modestly-higher open Wednesday ahead of the Federal Reserve's monetary policy decision later today, which most expect will contain an announcement of the Fed's quantitative easing strategy.
As of 8:20 a.m. in New York, the Dow Jones Industrial Average futures rose 14 points, or 0.13%, to 11166.00, the S&P 500 futures were up 1.1 points to 1193.80 and the Nasdaq 100 futures rose 1.25 points 2151.50.
As it has been long predicted, the Republicans took control of the House of Representatives in yesterday's mid-term elections and Rep. John Boehner will likely become the next Speaker of the House. The only surprise may have been the re-election of Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, which polling showed the race could have gone for Reid or Republican challenger Sharron Angle.
And in today's Fed meeting, economists and the broader market have long forecasted that the central bank will announce some sort of quantitative easing strategy in its meeting immediately following the mid-term elections. A decision by the Fed is expected shortly after 2 p.m. ET.
Wall Street will get a whole host of economic data before and after the market open today which will weigh on the markets as well.
ADP Macroeconomic Advisers said Wednesday that the private sector hired 43,000 workers in the month of October, nearly double what economists had been looking for.  The ADP report is used to forecast Friday's closely-watched government jobs report, which is expected to show the U.S. economy created 60,000 non-farm jobs and the unemployment rate remained at 9.6%.
Also out this morning is the ISM Services index and the Commerce Department's report on factory orders both at 10 a.m. ET.
The major auto makers will also report their October sales data starting at around 12 p.m. ET.
In commodities, oil was up 1% to $84.71 a barrel and gold was up 0.12% to $1,358.50 a troy ounce.

Bloomberg

Nov. 1 (Bloomberg) -- U.S. stocks rose, building on the biggest September-through-October rally in 12 years, and commodities climbed after China’s manufacturing strengthened and data on American spending and incomes underscored pressure on the Federal Reserve to boost growth. Oil climbed 1.9 percent

Bloomberg

Nov. 1 (Bloomberg) -- Manufacturing in the U.S. expanded in October at the fastest pace in five months as measures of production and orders placed with factories increased.
The Institute for Supply Management’sfactory index increased to 56.9 from 54.4, the Tempe, Arizona-based group said today. Readings greater than 50 signal growth, and the median forecast of economists surveyed by Bloomberg News was for a decline to 54. Orders and production increased to the highest levels since May

CNN Top 10 Heroes [Vote link]

VOTE FOR INDIAN

[NARAYANAN KRISHNAN, INDIAN]

I really like CNN's Heroes  [Videos] competition. It is a sign of the interest in good causes the national media have taken in recent years. I also like it because it honors a specific person, who is often the founder of a nonprofit, and his/her commitment, despite great odds, to helping others.

CNN Heroes [Videos] cannot nominate themselves for this recognition. But rather, someone else who admires the person or organization or cause must do the nominating. All qualifying Heroes receive a lot of promotion through CNN and, in addition, generally receive a lot of attention from their own hometown media.

In 2010, the fourth year of the Heroes program, CNN received more than 10,000 submissions from more than 100 countries. Many of these have been spotlighted during the year on the cable channel. A panel of judges then picked the top ten Heroes. Top 10 CNN Heroes are featured on CNNheroes.com - online voting by the public will determine the CNN Hero of the Year.

All Top 10 CNN Heroes will each receive $25,000 and will be honored at CNN Heroes: An All-Star Tribute, hosted by CNN anchor Anderson Cooper that will air on Thanksgiving, November 25th at 8pmET/5pm PT from the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles. At the November gala, CNN will reveal the CNN Hero of the Year, who will receive an additional $100,000.

Here is the list of the 2010 Top 10 CNN Heroes [VIDEO]:
